Deregistration Information

VEHICLE DEREGISTRATION If you have decided to withdraw your vehicle from circulation and permanently dispose of it, you are in the right place! You should know that the vehicle must be delivered to an Authorized Vehicle Treatment Center (CAT or scrapyard) so that it can be recycled and decontaminated in accordance with the current law on end-of-life vehicle treatment.

How is the vehicle permanently deregistered?

Once the vehicle arrives at the facilities, the electronic deregistration and the Certificate of Destruction will be processed, which are the documents that prove the correct environmental treatment of the vehicle and its permanent deregistration with the DGT. To deregister a vehicle with the DGT, it is essential to provide:

Procedure for permanently deregistering a vehicle where the owner is an individual

  • 4.- Copy of the manager's valid ID.

Procedure for permanently deregistering a vehicle without the documentation

If, as the owner, you are present on the day of vehicle delivery, you must provide:

  • 1.- Copy of the owner's valid ID.
  • 2.- Loss report form (doc.2) or attach a copy of the police report.
  • If, on the other hand, you want to designate another person to deliver the vehicle, it will be necessary:

Procedure for permanently deregistering a vehicle where the owner is deceased

It is essential to provide the following documents when the vehicle is in the name of a deceased person:

  • 1.- Vehicle registration certificate.
  • 2.- Vehicle circulation permit.
  • 3.- Copy of the owner's death certificate (from the civil registry).
  • 4.- Copy of the heir's ID who will request the deregistration.
  • 5.- Deregistration form signed by the heir. (doc.4)

Procedure for permanently deregistering a vehicle that is registered abroad

In order to be able to take a foreign vehicle to the scrapyard and recycle it, it is necessary to provide the following documentation:

  • 1.- Vehicle registration certificate.
  • 2.- Vehicle circulation permit.
  • 3.- Copy of the owner's valid ID, NIE or identity document.
  • If the owner cannot be present on the day of collection, a person must be authorized to deliver the vehicle and that person must also prove their identity.
